Corbin Carroll Makes Request to Diamondbacks Before Blue Jays Game

Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Corbin Carroll is amid another strong season. In his third full MLB campaign, the left-handed slugger owns a .914 OPS that ranks sixth in the National League. His 20 home runs rank fourth in the NL.

In 2023, Carroll won National League Rookie of the Year, making the All-Star team and finishing fifth in MVP voting. While his production dipped the following season, he has rebounded with a big start to 2025.

In Wednesday night's game against the Toronto Blue Jays, Carroll was hit by a pitch on his left hand. On Thursday, he is out of the lineup, which sparked concern among fans.

Speaking with reporters after Wednesday night's game, an 8-1 loss for Arizona, Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said Carroll had a left hand contusion. At that time, the star outfielder was still undergoing tests (via José M. Romero of azcentral).

Ahead of Carroll's absence from Thursday's lineup, the Diamondbacks star requested to play in the series finale, but was held out by the team to rest his bruised hand.

This update has multiple layers of good news for Arizona. First, Carroll is just dealing with a hand bruise. Secondly, he felt good enough to request to play. While he remains out against Toronto, this does not sound like an injury that will cost him any extended time, and certainly does not project to be an injured list situation.

Arizona will begin a three-game set with the last place Colorado Rockies on Friday after completing their series in Toronto against the Blue Jays.
