The San Diego Padres are tied for second in the NL West currently. Despite the winning record, the Padres’ offense has been a disaster and has continued to struggle during their four-game losing streak.

After scoring just seven runs in the last five games, the Padres manager, Craig Stammen, is speaking out about the offensive struggles of the team, per Marty Caswell of Foul Territory.

“In my opinion, it has nothing to do with him,” Stammen said about hitting coach Steven Sousa Jr. “This is the Padres hitting. This is the Padres organization. How we go about taking at-bats, it’s on all of us, and more specifically on me.”

The Padres are currently tied for 25th in the majors in runs scored, while sitting 29th in slugging. Further, the Padres are the worst in the majors in on-base percentage and batting average.

In the past week, it has been a disaster at the plate. The team has scored just 14 runs in the last six games, and is hitting just .190 with a .278 on-base percentage. Much of the offensive output has come from Manny Machado. He has two home runs and five RBIs, but he is hitting just .100. Meanwhile, Fernando Tatis Jr. is hitting well, but not getting much production. He is hitting .450 in the last week, with a .560 on-base percentage. Still, he has just one RBI and has scored only two runs.

At 31-24, the Padres are just four and a half games back of the Los Angeles Dodgers for first in the NL West. They have a chance to get the offense going this weekend. They will play a three-game series against the Washington Nationals starting on Friday. The Nationals are 25th in the majors in team ERA this year.
