Cristopher Sanchez of the Philadelphia Phillies continued his dominant season with a great outing against the Texas Rangers. Sanchez pitched six innings, gave up one earned run, and struck out six. He’s now 11-3 on the season with a 2.36 ERA and 151 strikeouts. The fact that he wasn’t named an All-Star continues to be a mystery, as he has been one of the more dominant pitchers in the league this year. Should Cristopher Sanchez be in the Cy Young Conversation this season?
Stat-wise, Sanchez should absolutely be in the Cy Young conversation, but as good as he’s been, there are pitchers in the league that have been even better than him this season. He isn’t on the same level as Tarik Skubal or Paul Skenes, who are certainly on the front line of consideration for the coveted pitching award. If this were 10–15 years ago, he’d be in the conversation because of his win-loss record, but that’s not as valued when considering a Cy Young winner as it once was.
Cristopher Sanchez has been part of a dominant Phillies’ rotation this season. Cristopher Sanchez also leads all Philadelphia Phillies starters in wins, innings pitched, and ERA. While he has a case, and he’s been dominant this season, pitching is at an all-time high talent-wise, and Sanchez isn’t at the same level as those pitchers.
The Phillies don’t have a weakness in their team. Their rotation, bullpen, and lineup all have players that will make any team nervous going into a playoff series. They’ll have a tall task, however, as the Mets, although on a five-game losing streak, are only 3.5 games behind them for the NL East lead. It’s going to be fun to watch these two teams go at it.
