The Chicago Cubs have endured ups and downs throughout the 2026 MLB season. Chicago is still playing a competitive brand of baseball for the most part, but the Cubs have dealt with injuries as well as underperformance at times. One player who endured an especially underwhelming June was third baseman Alex Bregman. He has hit under .200 so far during the month, and Bregman was asked what he is working on to get back on track on Monday.

“Bregman was asked what he’s working on after hitting .181 in June: ‘What’s your guess? Um, hitting the baseball.’ (This was self-deprecating btw not jerk-ish),” Jesse Rogers of ESPN reported.

Bregman, 32, has not played up to his expectations so far with Chicago after joining the team during the offseason. He is currently hitting .239/.336/.335 with six home runs, 11 doubles and one triple. The three-time All-Star is working hard to bounce back. He has a proven track record and it would not be surprising to see Bregman begin playing well again.

The Cubs are certainly going to need Bregman to perform well if they want to make a deep postseason run. Attempting to upset top National League teams such as the Los Angeles Dodgers, Milwaukee Brewers and Atlanta Braves in the postseason will be especially challenging if one of their best hitters is underperforming.

Bregman’s postseason experience suggests he will play an impactful role in October. Of course, the postseason is still a few months away. The Cubs are currently focused on their current series against the San Diego Padres.
