The Chicago Cubs (81–61) are looking to finish the final month of the regular season strong as the team braces for a return to the postseason.
Unfortunately, Chicago has been playing shorthanded in the outfield recently. Superstar offseason trade acquisition Kyle Tucker has not appeared in game action since Tuesday after leaving early against the Washington Nationals with left calf soreness.
To make matters worse, second-year sensation Pete Crow-Armstrong fouled a ball off his right knee on Saturday, leading to an early exit and a painful right knee contusion.
Both All-Star outfielders were left out of the lineup for Sunday’s series finale against Washington, with fans wondering whether either day-to-day injury might lead to an injured list stint.
However, manager Craig Counsell offered a reassuring update on both players on Sunday during pregame. Counsell announced that both players would be available off the bench despite being left out of the lineup.
“Update on PCA and Tucker — both doing better. Counsell would not discount using either one today,” wrote Bruce Levine of Marquee Sports Network.

This is a big development for Chicago, as the team will need both stars available down the stretch.
Tucker had begun to heat up after a slow start to the second half. Overall, he’s posted a .270 batting average, .381 on-base percentage, .854 OPS and 22 home runs in his first year with the Cubs.
Crow-Armstrong has yet to recapture his first-half form that earned him his first All-Star selection, but he continues to provide elite defense and speed on the base paths.
Both players’ status will be monitored closely, but it appears they could return to the lineup Monday against the Atlanta Braves.
