The Chicago Cubs continued their painful slide on Sunday, falling 8-5 to the Houston Astros at Wrigley Field.
The loss extended Chicago’s losing streak to eight games, their longest skid since a nine-game stretch back in July 2022. The Cubs have now gone 2-12 over their last 14 games. They have also now fallen to 29-24 on the season, sitting 2.5 games back in the NL Central, despite having not one but two 10-game winning streaks under their belt so far.
Shota Imanaga struggled for the second straight outing, allowing seven runs in the loss. The Cubs’ offense showed some fight late, with a timely home run from Michael Busch in the seventh inning to cut into the lead, but it wasn’t enough to stop the bleeding against a Houston team that entered the series with one of the worst ERAs in baseball.
This loss marks the first time since 2022 that the Cubs have dropped at least eight in a row. The team has already begun making roster moves to spark the lineup, including recent call-ups of top prospects. Many are beginning to wonder if they are just simply broken.
