Cubs Get Concerning Update from Red Sox on Kyle Tucker's Free Agency

The Rafael Devers trade doesn't just impact the Boston Red Sox. In fact, it could play a significant role in shaping the Chicago Cubs' future.

If the Red Sox want to get creative in the offseason, they now have a ton of money to spend with Kyle Tucker hitting free agency.

While it remains uncertain what the Red Sox plan to do in the near future, and trading Devers doesn't exactly help figure anything out, if they have an opportunity to sign Tucker, it wouldn't be surprising to see Boston take a chance.

And according to a recent report, it's possible that the Red Sox could get involved.

"The Giants were looked at as a contender for Tucker, but now they have Devers' contract, which pays him between $27.5 million to $31 million between now and 2033 (with deferrals)," according to Jon Greenberg of The Athletic.

"The Red Sox could be a possibility, but as longtime baseball reporter Tom Verducci said on 670 The Score on Monday afternoon, the Devers trade might just force Boston to sign Alex Bregman to an extension."

If the Red Sox want Tucker, there's reason to believe he could be interested in playing with his former teammate, Alex Bregman. However, Bregman has an opt-out clause after this season and will have the opportunity to hit the free agency market once again.

There's plenty that has to play out over the next few months, but the Cubs must be cautious now. The last thing they want is for Tucker to be enticed by playing for a storied franchise with a short right field porch.
