Cubs land starting pitcher in trade with Mets

The Chicago Cubs finally landed a starting pitcher just hours before the MLB trade deadline.

The Cubs are acquiring right-hander Clay Holmes and outfielder Tyrone Taylor from the New York Mets in exchange for Jefferson Rojas, New York’s No. 2 prospect.

Earlier in the day, a report surfaced that the Cubs were landing Los Angeles Angels pitcher Reid Detmers, although those were refuted by big insiders such as Mark Feinsand and Jesse Rogers.

Sources tell me that Angels starter Reid Detmers has NOT been traded to the Cubs despite a report to the contrary.

Holmes is in his second season with the Mets after spending time with the Pittsburgh Pirates and New York Yankees earlier in his career.

Holmes suffered a fractured tibia in May after being hit by a comebacker, but that didn’t stop teams from showing interest in the converted starting pitcher.

Taylor is 32 years old and he has a .214 average with 10 home runs and 28 RBIs this season.

The Cubs also acquired starting pitcher Kevin Gausman in a deal with the Toronto Blue Jays, and they added relief pitcher Ryan Zeferjahn in a deal with the Angels.
