The Chicago Cubs have built one of the most dangerous lineups in the National League over the past few seasons. A major reason for their success has been the emergence of first baseman Michael Busch, who was traded to Chicago from the Los Angeles Dodgers ahead of the 2024 MLB season.

That deal has worked out extremely well for the Cubs. Since his arrival, the 28‑year‑old left-handed slugger has taken a significant step forward at the plate. Last year, Busch posted a .261/.343/.866 slash line, with all of those numbers marking career-highs.

He also smashed 34 home runs and drove in 90 runs across 155 games, earning a 16th-place finish in NL MVP voting.

Now in his third year with the club, Busch is preparing to enter a new era in his personal life. Ahead of Friday’s series opener against the Cleveland Guardians, Busch made an announcement on Instagram in a collaborative post with his long-time partner Haylee Schreen.

The two shared that they had gotten engaged, posting a series of photos that included Busch proposing and Schreen saying yes.

“3•15•26 The best chapter begins! Over the moon to begin a life time with my best friend! Rooted in Him, ready for forever!❤️” the caption read.

As Busch steps into this new chapter, he will hope to translate one of his biggest life moments into continued success on the field. The Cubs are looking to make the playoffs for a second straight year with hopes of going on a deeper run in October, and if they do, they will need Busch to remain a power threat in the middle of the lineup.

Busch remains under team control until 2030, and with Chicago committing major money to several of its All-Star players, having him cost-controlled is a significant advantage for the front office.

And if he continues trending upward both on and off the field, the Cubs long-term core will look even stronger than it already does.
