Dave Roberts Happy With ‘Big Splash’ Not Needed

The Los Angeles Dodgers became MLB’s first repeat champion since the New York Yankees and almost immediately began discussing their desire to three-peat in 2026.

They went into the offseason with some notable free agents but majority of their roster still due to be intact next year. One need the team faces is in the outfield, and there’s a belief the Dodgers also will look to address their bullpen in some fashion.

But conventional wisdom holds the offseason is going to differ compared to the last two years when the Dodgers flexed their financial might to sign the likes of Shohei Ohtani, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Blake Snell and Tanner Scott, among others.

The measured approach would sit just fine with Dodgers manager Dave Roberts.

“I was actually just talking to Andrew and Gomer recently, and we’re very confident with where the roster is at right now on the pitching side and positional player side,” Roberts said while speaking with reporters from the Winter Meetings in Orlando, Fla.

“Obviously, there’s opportunities and potential opportunities to upgrade the roster, and we’re always kind of looking to do that. But there’s really no big splash we feel needs to be made, because this team is still focused. There’s some talk about a three-peat, so this is a focused team.”

Roberts’ stance reflects prior comments made by general manager Brandon Gomes, who expressed confidence in Scott bouncing back to provide a boost to the bullpen.

Even if the Dodgers didn’t make any additions to their roster before Opening Day of the 2026 season, they would still enter the campaign as the World Series favorite.

And despite confidence in the current group and indications of a tempered offseason, the Dodgers always lurk and seemingly are in position to capitalize on any given opportunity that may unexpectedly arise.

Dodgers planning to trade Teoscar Hernández?

While the Dodgers re-signed Miguel Rojas to a one-year contract for his final season, it’s been reported the team is open to trading Teoscar Hernández.

However, Roberts said Hernández still fits with the team moving forward — possibly in left field — and Gomes deemed a trade unlikely.
