INF/OF Justyn-Henry Malloy was optioned to Triple-A Toledo following yesterday’s game.
To make room for Meadows on the 40-man roster, RHP Ryan Cusick has been designated for assignment.
The Tigers' athletic center fielder Meadows turned heads during a recent rehab assignment, showing off his power at the plate.
At 6-foot-5, 205 pounds with plus-speed, Meadows has the ability to get to fly balls that other players on the Tigers roster simply cannot.
He hit .244 last season with nine home runs and 28 RBI during the Tigers' Wild Card playoff run and will join a team that has been coming into its own lately under Hinch's guidance.
Malloy had an average of .215 with one home run and 16 RBI before yesterday's demotion while Cusick was claimed off waivers from the Oakland Athletics and made one appearance with the Mud Hens before his designation.
