The Detroit Tigers will play the middle game of their series against the Mets tonight. The Tigers dropped the opener yesterday, 10-8. Ahead of tonight’s game, the Tigers are recalling right-handed pitcher Sawyer Gipson-Long from Triple-A Toledo. Gipson-Long will get the ball and start tonight’s game against the Mets. The corresponding move for Detroit is optioning right-handed pitcher Chase Lee to Triple-A Toledo.

Gipson-Long, this season in six games with the Tigers, two of which came as starts, went 0-1 with a 4.32 ERA, a 1.04 WHIP, and 20 strikeouts in 25 innings. In 12 appearances with 11 coming as starts in the minor leagues, he went 0-1. He posted a 3.63 ERA, a 1.08 WHIP, and 42 strikeouts in 39.2 innings.
Lee, in 32 games for the Tigers this season, went 4-1. He posted a 4.10 ERA, a 1.10 WHIP, and 36 strikeouts in 37.1 innings. In 17 appearances at Triple-A Toledo, he went 0-1. Lee had a save, an 8.10 ERA, a 1.41 WHIP, and 36 strikeouts in 23.1 innings. The Tigers acquired Lee in the trade with the Rangers last season which Detroit sent reliever Andrew Chafin to Texas.
