The Arizona Diamondbacks made a notable roster move Thursday, announcing that starting catcher Gabriel Moreno has been placed on the 10-day injured list due to a right hand contusion. The moves comes ahead of the series finale against the Toronto Blue Jays.
Moreno, 25, originally sustained the injury on June 6 when he was struck on the hand by a wild pitch. Despite attempting to play through the discomfort, he's been limited to three games in the past 12 days and has struggled to fully recover.

The Diamondbacks had hoped to avoid placing him on the IL, but with lingering issues and continued soreness, they've opted to give him extended time to heal. He'll be eligible to return on June 27 and is expected to be ready by then.
To help fill the void, Arizona has selected the contract of catcher Aramis Garcia from Triple-A Reno. Garcia returns as the backup option behind Jose Herrera, who will assume primary catching duties in Moreno's absence.
To make room on the 40-man roster, right-handed reliever Christian Montes De Oca was transferred from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day IL.
Moreno, a former Blue Jays prospect acquired in the Daulton Varsho trade, has been enjoying a strong season. Through 51 games, he's slashing .270/.374/.414 with solid defense and management behind plate, further cementing his place as one the game's rising young catchers.
