Diamondbacks’ big three earn Silver Slugger nominations

Carroll, Perdomo and Marte’s nominations come after breakout seasons, record-breaking feats and franchise milestones.

Carroll became the first Diamondbacks player to record a 30-home run, 30-stolen base season, while also leading the league with 17 triples. Marte posted a .283 batting average with 28 home runs and an .893 OPS. Perdomo had his best season yet, as the switch-hitting shortstop batted .290 with a career-high 20 home runs and became the first D-Backs shortstop to record 100 RBIs in a single season.

The three players weren’t the only Snakes acknowledged for their offensive power this season, as the entire club was also nominated for the National League’s Offensive Team of the Year.

Arizona ranked fourth in the NL with a .251 batting average and 791 runs scored, fourth in home runs with 219, fifth in on-base percentage at .325 and second in slugging percentage at .441.

The nominations mark a turning point in Arizona baseball, as homegrown talent and veteran stars are beginning to receive broader national recognition.

Whether it was watching Carroll leg out a triple, Marte’s clutch home runs or Perdomo sparking late-game rallies, the team gave not only its fans, but baseball fans everywhere, something worth watching.

With a young core beginning to flourish at the major league level, combined with veteran power and now league-wide recognition, the Diamondbacks are seeing their investments come to fruition.

The Silver Slugger winners will be announced on Thursday, Nov. 6.
