Diamondbacks Corbin Carroll named MLB’s Player of the Month for August
Sam Navarro-USA TODAY Sports

Major League Baseball has announced their Players of the Month for August 2024. Aaron Judge won the award for the American League while the Diamondbacks’ Corbin Carroll has been named for the National League.

For the month of August, Carroll batted .280 with 11 home runs, 24 RBI, and a 1.042 OPS. He led all MLB players in runs scored with 30, helping the Diamondbacks achieve an 18-9 record. He has successfully reached base in each of his past 42 starts and has a 12-game hitting streak entering play on September 3.

For much of the season, Carroll has struggled with the dreaded sophomore slump but has climbed out of it in July and August. On the season as a whole, he’s now slashing .232/.316/.430 with 19 home runs and 22 stolen bases. His defense has also improved in right field, getting better jumps and converting tougher chances. He had a big catch against the Miami Marlins on August 19, in which he converted a 20% catch probability chance to rob Jesús Sánchez of a game-tying double in a 3-1 win.

He also added an inside-the-park home run against the Los Angeles Dodgers, the sixth fastest in the Statcast Era with a home-to-home time of 14.32 seconds, to his list of impressive feats.

With Carroll now back and anchoring the top of the lineup, the Diamondbacks have one of the toughest lineups in baseball to contend with. Christian Walker and Ketel Marte are expected to return for the road trip, which should make the lineup even more tough.
