The Arizona Diamondbacks won’t have a manager opening after all.

On Thursday, it was revealed that Arizona is keeping Torey Lovullo and giving him a new two-year contract, according to Nick Piecoro of The Arizona Republic.

Lovullo just finished his 10th season as the Diamondbacks manager. He led them to the World Series in 2023, although they lost to the Texas Rangers in five games.

However, Arizona has made the postseason only twice under Lovullo, with the only other time coming in 2017, his first season as the team’s manager.

This year, the Diamondbacks finished with an 86-76 record, but they just missed out on a spot in the National League Wild Card series as the Philadelphia Phillies won Game 162 and the Diamondbacks lost.

Lovullo was one of three MLB managers who were expected to be fired if they missed the playoffs, with Dan Wilson (Seattle Mariners) and Joe Espada (Houston Astros) as the others.

Seattle did move on from Wilson, but Houston won the AL West and made the playoffs, although they lost to the Chicago White Sox in the Wild Card round.

Lovullo was widely expected to be a top candidate for other jobs if Arizona moved on, but he sticks around in the desert for at least two more seasons.
