Dick Vitale revealed last year that he was declared cancer free, going 4-0 after his fourth bout with cancer in the span of three years.
The legendary college basketball coach turned analyst is still getting accolades for the accomplishment.
Vitale took to social media on Monday to share his excitement at the NLCS rematch between the New York Mets and Los Angeles Dodgers, with the Mets winning in the 10th inning after the Dodgers rallied to tie the game in the ninth.
Vitale also revealed that he got a phone call from former Dodgers player and MLB manager Dusty Baker, who had some words of encouragement for the ESPN analyst.
"Wow earlier tonight I had a call from ex Dodger Dusty Baker who was calling to say he was happy to learn that I was cancer free," Vitale shared on X.
Vitale underwent surgery last summer to remove cancerous lymph nodes from his neck, having already been treated for melanoma and lymphoma. Vitale took to X to reveal that doctors had declared him cancer-free.
“SANTA CLAUS came early as Dr Rick Brown called & said that my PET SCAN at 7 AM came back CLEAN OF CANCER !” Vitale posted on X. “OMG thanks so much to ALL of YOU for your (prayers). Yes I’m cutting the nets down baby it’s my National Championship!”
Vitale had undergone other treatments for vocal cord cancer last year.
