Dodgers Announce Teoscar Hernandez Plan Before Braves Game

Teoscar Hernandez’s third year with the Los Angeles Dodgers has certainly been his worst. Hernandez suffered a left hamstring strain in late May and since then has never fully gotten back on track.

The 33-year-old veteran outfielder has struggled especially since the All-Star break. Over his last 33 games, Hernandez has hit just .246 with a .277 on-base percentage and .672 OPS. Known for his raw power, he has also hit just three home runs and eight RBIs during that stretch.

He has consistently fallen in the Dodgers lineup, which is not what the team envisioned when they signed him to a three-year, $66 million contract just two winters ago.

Los Angeles decided to hold Hernandez out of the lineup for Tuesday’s series opener against the Atlanta Braves, with outfielder Alex Call drawing the start in left field in his place.

Ahead of Wednesday’s game against the Braves, Hernandez was slotted back into the starting nine.

Dave Roberts spoke with sideline reporter David Vassegh during pregame and provided the plan for Hernandez for the rest of the week. He revealed that Hernandez’s absence on Tuesday was to give him a day off to reset and work through some mechanical issues.

Roberts added that Hernandez will be in the lineup for the next five games, indicating he will play the final two against Atlanta and then all three over the weekend against the Detroit Tigers.

The pressure is mounting on Hernandez to figure things out as October gets closer. He has undoubtedly been a huge part of why the Dodgers have won two straight World Series titles, and he will likely still get opportunities in the postseason for that reason.

But seeing signs of life from him before then would go a long way toward easing concerns about what he can contribute this year.
