Dodgers' Blake Treinen on IL with right shoulder discomfort

The Los Angeles Dodgers will enter Friday's matchup at the San Diego Padres winners of nine of their first 12 games of the regular season but shared some bad news with fans hours before that contest.

Per ESPN's Alden Gonzalez and the official MLB website, reliable Dodgers right-handed relief pitcher Blake Treinen hasn't taken the bump since April 14 and has now officially been placed on the injured list due to what's being called right shoulder discomfort. It's unclear if the Dodgers will backdate Treinen's stint on the IL, as the seriousness of his setback is unknown ahead of the weekend.

In a corresponding roster move, the Dodgers recalled left-handed pitcher Garrett Cleavinger for at least the weekend series versus San Diego. As noted by ESPN stats, Cleavinger surrendered one run on two hits in 0.2 innings of work in his only big-league appearance of the season, to date.

Treinen, meanwhile, had posted a 3.00 ERA across three appearances and three full innings before he was shut down.

According to Eric Stephen of True Blue LA, the Dodgers have eight pitchers on the IL following this development. Thus far, Los Angeles has done well to weather that storm.
