The Los Angeles Dodgers selected the contract of Eliezer Alfonzo after adding him to their 40-man roster and optioned Chuckie Robinson to Triple-A Oklahoma City.

The Dodgers already had one open spot on their 40-man roster after Jonathan Hernández was designated for assignment, so no additional move was needed.

Alfonzo has batted .313/.392/.422 in 49 games with the Comets, hitting one home run, scoring 32 runs and driving in 17. The switch-hitter is a career .283/.345/.380 hitter in 581 Minor League games.

Alfonzo was signed as a Minor League free agent on Nov. 17, 2025. Prior to that he spent eight seasons in the Detroit Tigers organization after being signed as an international free agent out of Venezuela.

The 26-year-old has yet to make his MLB debut. Alfonzo should get somewhat of an extended stay with the Dodgers until Will Smith is able to return sometime after the All-Star break.

Smith recently started throwing and hitting to start his rehab progression, but likely remains at least a few weeks away from returning.

Dodgers send down Chuckie Robinson

Robinson was first called up on June 11 when Smith landed on the injured list. It marked his third stint with the club in two seasons.

Robinson appeared in eight games for the Dodgers this season, batting just .087/.087/.087 with one run scored and one RBI. He went hitless with the club in two plate appearances last season.

The backstop made his MLB debut in 2022 with the Cincinnati Reds and again reached the Majors in 2024 with the Chicago White Sox.

Over 60 career MLB games, Robinson is hitting .124/.157/.176 with two home runs, seven runs scored and six RBI.

Robinson re-signed with the Dodgers on a Minor League contract this past offseason. He first joined the organization on May 31, 2025, after being designated for assignment by the Los Angeles Angels.

However, Robinson finished the season with the Atlanta Braves organization after they claimed him off waivers in late September.

With the Comets this season, the 31-year-old is batting .260/.321/.442 in 31 games with two home runs, 18 RBI and seven runs scored.

Robinson could also be the most probable option to be designated for assignment when Evan Phillips returns, which figures to happen as soon as Sunday after he completed a lengthy rehab assignment while working his way back from Tommy John surgery.
