Dodgers' Dave Roberts Announces Max Muncy News After 22 Straight Missed Games

The Los Angeles Dodgers have been struggling as of late, losing five consecutive games and looking to avoid back-to-back sweeps against two teams—the Pittsburgh Pirates and Baltimore Orioles—well outside postseason contention.

The Dodgers lineup has been a major disappointment in the second half, ranking in the bottom ten in run production. While the team’s superstars have slumped, Max Muncy’s absence over the past month has been a significant blow.

The 35-year-old veteran hasn’t slowed down in his eighth season in Los Angeles, posting a .258 batting average, .389 on-base percentage, .880 OPS, 17 home runs and 64 RBIs across 89 games.

Max Muncy Injury Update

Muncy has dealt with multiple injuries this year, including a left knee bone bruise from a collision at third base and his current stint on the IL recovering from a right oblique strain.

He suffered a setback last week due to illness, but after beginning his rehab assignment with Triple-A Oklahoma City, manager Dave Roberts announced Sunday that it would be Muncy’s final missed game. He’s expected to return Monday for the Dodgers’ series opener against the Colorado Rockies.

"Dave Roberts said Max Muncy and Alex Vesia are expected to be active tomorrow, with Tommy Edman at some point after that. Plan is for Tyler Glasnow to start a game in the Rockies series," wrote The Athletic's Fabian Ardaya.

Although Dodgers fans haven’t had much to cheer about recently—including a demoralizing loss Saturday after Yoshinobu Yamamoto pitched 8 2/3 no-hit innings—the return of Muncy is a major development.

In his absence, the Dodgers posted a 10–12 record, with the offense struggling to find consistent production.

Los Angeles still appears set for another postseason run, and having Muncy back in the lineup is crucial as the team attempts to defend its World Series title.
