Dodgers hire away EVP from Padres

The Los Angeles Dodgers hired Caroline Perry as executive vice president and chief operating officer Monday, bringing a longtime San Diego Padres executive across the NL West rivalry.

Perry will begin her new role November 30 as the Dodgers prepare for a transition in their business leadership.

The appointment fills the opening created by longtime executive Bob Wolfe’s upcoming retirement.

USA Today’s Bob Nightengale noted the move Monday on X, formerly Twitter, highlighting Perry’s lengthy tenure in San Diego.

“The Los Angeles Dodgers hire Caroline Perry away from the San Diego Padres to become their executive vice president and chief operating officer. Perry, who had been the Padres’ highest-ranking female employee in franchise history, had been with the Padres for the past 16 years.”

Perry takes over for Bob Wolfe, who will retire at the end of the year and remain with the Dodgers as an adviser.

Her arrival follows a steady rise through the Padres’ organization. A San Diego native, Perry joined the club as associate general counsel in April 2011 and became chief operating officer in January 2023.

Her responsibilities included ballpark operations, business strategy and analytics, legal, finance, government affairs and information technology. She also worked on major projects, including the renovation of Gallagher Square at Petco Park.

Before entering baseball, Perry practiced corporate law at Davis Polk & Wardwell and Cravath, Swaine & Moore. She holds degrees from Stanford University and Columbia Law School.

The Dodgers also promoted Royce Cohen from senior vice president of business strategy to executive vice president and chief business officer on the same day.

Together, the moves bring an experienced outside executive and an internal promotion into the Dodgers’ business leadership as Wolfe prepares to step aside.
