The Los Angeles Dodgers placed star first baseman Freddie Freeman on the 10-day injured list Thursday with an ankle injury.
Freeman re-aggravated it while stepping into the shower on Sunday.
"Halfway through my (Sunday) morning coffee, I was like, 'Oh, I'll just shower to get ready for the day,'" Freeman said. "And next thing you know, I'm down in the bathtub. It's a great mental picture, if you guys want to think about it, big guy falling all over the place. ... Freak accident, you can't really make it up, crazy."
The former NL MVP was hampered with an ankle issue last September and rested for the week leading up to the National League Divisional Series.
It didn't prove to hinder his potential in the postseason as Freeman hit a walk-off home run in Game 1 of the World Series against the New York Yankees and cemented himself into Dodgers lore.
In Freeman's stead, the Dodgers announced that they are calling up 27-year-old catcher Hunter Feduccia from Triple-A.
This came as surprise to the masses, who expected the organization's top prospect in catcher Dalton Rushing to get the promotion.
Feduccia has recorded 12 major league at-bats since making his debut last year. The left-handed hitter tallied four hits, two walks, and an RBI in his short tenure with the Dodgers.
In 2023, Feduccia posted a .279/.387/.451 slash line in 90 games with Triple-A Oklahoma City.
He'll serve as an emergency option with All-Star Will Smith assuming regular duties behind home plate with veteran Austin Barnes behind him.
