If veteran left-hander Joe Jacques hadn’t gotten an opportunity with the injury-ravaged Los Angeles Dodgers yet, then that chance likely was never coming.
Luckily for Jacques, another division leader was interested in his services. MLB Network insider Joel Sherman reported Monday morning that the Seattle Mariners acquired the 30-year-old Jacques via trade.
As of publication, it remained unclear who or what the Mariners gave up.
Jacques, who joined the Dodgers on a minor-league contract last November, did not pitch at the big-league level this season. He posted a 6.04 ERA and three saves in 22.1 innings at Triple-A.
It remained unclear as of publication if Jacques will immediately join the Mariners’ 26-man roster.
A 2018 33rd-round pick of the Pittsburgh Pirates, Jacques is 2-1 with a 5.46 ERA over 25 big-league games. His most extensive experience came when he recorded a 5.06 ERA and 20-10 K-BB ratio across 26.2 innings with the Boston Red Sox two years ago.
Jacques allowed three runs in three innings last season with the Red Sox and Arizona Diamondbacks last season.
The trade came following the Dodgers’ 7-3 loss to the New York Yankees on Sunday night.
