Dodgers make pitching trade with Blue Jays

The Los Angeles Dodgers and Toronto Blue Jays agreed to a trade on Tuesday, the Dodgers announced.

“The Dodgers have acquired RHP Sebastian Rodriguez from the Blue Jays in exchange for RHP Jose Rodríguez,” the team announced on X, formerly Twitter.

The Dodgers are expected to make a number of moves with September beginning on Tuesday, as rosters are expanding. LA is promoting infielder Alex Freeland, while the expectation is that catcher Will Smith will return from injury on Tuesday as well. Now, the ball club is making a pitching trade by acquiring Sebastian Rodriguez.

Sebastian Rodriguez was signed by the Blue Jays in June. The right-handed pitcher has appeared in just seven games at the rookie level of the Blue Jays’ minor league system. He pitched to a 6.00 ERA across seven outings.

Meanwhile, Jose Rodriguez was signed by the Dodgers in 2019. He pitched in the organization from 2021 through this season. Rodriguez has reached the Triple-A level and he could be ready for the big leagues soon. He has pitched to a strong 3.38 ERA across 21 appearances (three starts) at Triple-A this season.

This is a trade that will be overlooked by many. However, both teams are receiving quality prospects. The Blue Jays get a pitcher who could impact their MLB ball club sooner rather than later. As for the Dodgers, Sebastian Rodriguez may impact the team in the future. Los Angeles is known for its ability to develop pitchers.

The trade could certainly benefit both the Blue Jays and Dodgers.
