The Dodgers-Padres budding rivalry just became a lot hotter. The latest installment started when Dylan Cease hit Andy Pages with a pitch.
Some words were exchanged. Pages accused Cease of intentionally hitting him, and Friars’ manager Mike Shildt was seen yelling, “Who do you think you are?” But the Pages fallout was yet to be over. After the game, Padres’ star Manny Machado had this to say of Pages:
“They got way more superstars over there if we want to hit somebody," Machado said. "They’ve got some big dogs over there we could hit. This game is crazy, right? This rivalry. It’s back and forth. Playing this competition, things get heated.
"You want to go out there and compete. He’s having a helluva year. He’s going to continue having a helluva year. Rooting for him, but it’s just part of the game.”
To Machado’s point, the heat was just starting. On Tuesday, the next game after Machado’s comments, both Shohei Ohtani and Fernando Tatis Jr. were hit by pitches. These two are the obvious “Big dogs” from both teams; however, the war of hit batters was overshadowed by Pages’ crushing revenge.
The Dodgers’ centerfielder went 4-for-4 with two home runs, scoring three RBIs in the 8-6 victory over San Diego. Pages’ big night prompted just a little bit of well-deserved gloating. The Dodgers had some fun on social media, posting his first home run with the caption, “Big dog, Andy Pages.”

After his second home run, the Dodgers turned from Machado to answer Shildt’s question. Los Angeles posted Pages' second home run with the caption, “AND THAT'S WHO ANDY PAGES IS!”
