Dodgers’ Teoscar Hernandez Update Emerges Before Phillies Game

The Los Angeles Dodgers are giving Teoscar Hernandez a scheduled day off Tuesday night in Philadelphia, per DodgerBlue.com.

The day off comes at a perfect time as the 33-year-old outfielder has been struggling as of late with just three hits in his last five games for a .167 batting average and seven strikeouts. Hernandez gets to rest and reset before heading back into action.

Hernandez is in his third season with the Dodgers and has strung together seven consecutive 20-homer campaigns, a two-time World Series champion who returned from a Grade 1 hamstring strain in late June after missing roughly a month.

Since coming back, Hernandez has been eased in and out of the lineup as Los Angeles manages his workload down the stretch. Currently, he is hitting .241 with eight home runs, 37 RBIs and a .692 OPS through 67 games.

The rest comes after the Dodgers dropped the series opener 10-7 to the Phillies on Monday. The Dodgers enter Tuesday at 63-38, still well ahead in the National League West, while the Phillies sit at 56-45. Justin Wrobleski gets the start for the Dodgers against Zack Wheeler.

With Hernandez out, Max Muncy moves up to hit cleanup.

Alex Call takes over in left field in Hernandez's place, a role he's filled regularly as a fill-in option since the Dodgers acquired him last season.

Los Angeles will look to even the series Tuesday before closing it out Thursday, with Hernandez expected back in the mix as the Dodgers navigate a stacked schedule into the trade deadline.
