The Los Angeles Dodgers are playing postseason baseball for the 13th year in a row, but face an extra round this October as they look to become MLB’s first repeat World Series champion since the New York Yankees from 1998-2000.
While the Dodgers won the National League West for a 12th time in the past 13 seasons, they finished behind the Milwaukee Brewers and Philadelphia Phillies in the standings. That in turn has the Dodgers playing in the NL Wild Card Series to begin their postseason run.
As the No. 3 seed in the NL playoff bracket, the Dodgers are hosting the best-of-three Wild Card round at Dodger Stadium. They’re due to face either the Cincinnati Reds or New York Mets, and won’t know their opponent until games are final on the last day of the regular season.
Game 1 of the Wild Card Series is on Tuesday, and Game 2 is scheduled for Wednesday. If necessary, a winner-take-all Game 3 would be played Thursday.
This year marks just the third time the Dodgers have ever played in a Wild Card scenario. The first instance came in 2020, when MLB implemented an expanded postseason field to help make up for playing a shortened schedule brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic.
MLB then reverted back to a single-game Wild Card in 2021, which the Dodgers needed to play in despite finishing the season with what was a franchise-record 106 wins.
All Wild Card games for the NL and American League are going to be televised on ABC and ESPN platforms.
Tuesday, Sept. 30: Game 1, 6:08 p.m. PT, ESPN, Dodger Stadium
Wednesday, Oct. 1: Game 2, 6:08 p.m. PT, ESPN, Dodger Stadium
Tuesday, Oct. 2: Game 3*, TBD, Dodger Stadium
*if necessary
