With Tyler Glasnow and Blake Snell on IL, the Los Angeles Dodgers opted to boost their depth with the addition of Eric Lauer, who they acquired in a trade with the Toronto Blue Jays after being designated for assignment on May 11.
After turning in arguably his best professional season in 2025, Lauer’s 2026 has been less than ideal, with his comments about being used as a long reliever drawing the ire of some Blue Jays fans.
Asked about getting back on track now as a member of the Dodgers, Lauer noted he’s excited to join such a quality organization and will do what he can to help the team win.
“Yeah, I think just even having the conversation I just had with Briar, there’s a lot of things that they see in me that we could get back to where I was, and that’s pretty much what I’m here for,” Lauer said. “I’m here to help the team win and, you know, get back to being the best version of myself.”
Discussing what kind of adjustments he could make to his game after amassing an 6.69 ERA in Ontario, Lauer noted that the Dodgers have already suggested some tweaks, signaling that his game could rebound before LA fans know it.
“I think it’s a couple of slight adjustments. I think it’s a little bit of a, you know, a mental break, a change of scenery I think is good for everybody every once in a while,” Lauer said. “But there’s a few mechanical things that I definitely want to work on and that they’ve already kind of thrown out there as possibilities. So I think there’s a few different things that we can try and, you know, mess around with, tinker a little bit. But hopefully it all works, and I’m here to help the team win in any way I can, so that’s what I’m here for.”
Officially added to the Dodgers’ 40-man roster, Lauer is set to pitch for the Dodgers next Tuesday as a starter, with Dave Roberts making him available as a reliever as soon as the Wednesday finale against the San Diego Padres. While only time will tell what role Lauer ultimately plays by season’s end, right now, the Dodgers need pitching help, and he looks like a capable arm who can do just that.
