Ex-Angels GM joins Braves for 2027 season

The Atlanta Braves are continuing to reshape their front office ahead of the 2027 season, with Alex Anthopoulos reconnecting with executives who previously worked in the organization.

Former Houston Astros general manager Dana Brown recently rejoined the Braves as a senior advisor to the amateur scouting department. His addition brought a familiar evaluator back into the organization’s operation early in the offseason.

Perry Minasian also has longstanding ties to Anthopoulos and Atlanta. He served as the Braves’ assistant general manager from 2017 through 2020, helping build the club into a perennial contender before leaving to run the Los Angeles Angels.

That experience followed scouting work with the Texas Rangers and nine years with the Toronto Blue Jays.

USA Today’s Bob Nightengale shared an update Thursday on X, formerly Twitter, addressing Minasian’s next step following his departure from the Angels.

“Former Angels VP Perry Minasian now rejoins Atlanta front office staff”

The move reunites Minasian with Anthopoulos for the 2027 season after six seasons overseeing the Angels’ baseball operations.

Los Angeles relieved Minasian of his general manager duties on June 26 with the team at 34-48 and last in the American League West. The Angels named John Mozeliak interim general manager following the change.

Minasian’s tenure began ahead of the 2021 season, but Los Angeles never finished with a winning record during his time leading the front office. His dismissal came a little over four months before Thursday’s report.

Rumors earlier in the offseason suggested Anthopoulos could reunite with Minasian and Brown. Both executives have now returned to Atlanta after serving as general managers elsewhere.

Brown’s advisory position centers on amateur scouting. Nightengale’s announcement confirms Minasian’s return but does not identify his job title, outline his responsibilities or specify how his duties will differ from those of his former colleague.
