Ex-Cubs Star Anthony Rizzo Predicted to Join AL Central Contender

Former Chicago Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo would be welcomed back with open arms if the Cubs ever considered a reunion. Unfortunately, it wouldn't be anything close to what Rizzo once did, but he'd be a nice player in the locker room.

Despite the nice gesture for the franchise and the fanbase, if they were to look at a reunion, it doesn't make much sense from the Cubs’ perspective regarding the baseball point of view.

Rizzo is way past his prime and is coming off his worst season yet, hitting .228 with just eight home runs in 337 at-bats for the New York Yankees.

Kerry Miller of Bleacher Report attempted to find landing spots for the veteran, adding that it's surprising that he remains on the market when other players who haven't been as good as him find teams.

However, Miller linked him to the Detroit Tigers, citing his potential to play with former Cubs star Javier Baez.

"It's been a while since Anthony Rizzo was the annual MVP candidate that he was in the mid-2010s, but it has only been a few months since the New York Yankees started him at first base in all but one of their final 10 postseason games. So, how do guys like Yuli Gurriel, Joey Gallo, Garrett Cooper and Rowdy Tellez keep finding work while Rizzo remains unemployed?...

"Perhaps Detroit (Javier Báez), too, although Spencer Torkelson has gotten out to a great start to the year," Rizzo wrote.

Rizzo could be interested in playing with the Tigers, but it's unlikely that the Tigers would be interested in him.

If the Tigers were to add another player, they’d need a right-handed bat. Rizzo wouldn't give them that, and it isn't like his production would be much of anything, which would take away from some of the young guys they have in their lineup.
