Ex-Phillies Fan-Favorite Rhys Hoskins Gets Career Update Amid Latest Rumors

The Philadelphia Phillies have had to make some difficult decisions in recent years.

Allowing Rhys Hoskins, their first baseman a few years ago, to walk was one of them.

Hoskins, who wasn't only loved by the fan base, also put up decent numbers in Philadelphia. Unfortunately, he tore his ACL during spring training, and Hoskins missed the 2023 campaign.

In that same span, the Phillies moved Bryce Harper to first base, impacting his career in Philadelphia.

In free agency, he signed with the Milwaukee Brewers.

During his time with the Brewers, Hoskins has played decent baseball, posting a 133 OPS+ this season in 162 plate appearances. He has five home runs and seven doubles, hitting .285.

According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, there's a chance he’ll be available at the deadline, if the Brewers aren't a playoff team.

This would mean Hoskins would be on his third team in three years, something he likely never expected before going down with that ACL injury.

"If the Boston Red Sox are still looking for a first baseman at the trade deadline, Rhys Hoskins of the Milwaukee Brewers could be the perfect fit. Hoskins, a free agent after the season, will be available if the Brewers aren’t in the playoff hunt," Nightengale wrote.

The Boston Red Sox have a significant need at first base, and he could welcome a move to the American League East squad.

The Red Sox are good enough to compete for a World Series on paper. They haven't played like that to start the year, but Hoskins would likely have a chance to make it to the postseason.
