Ex-player calls out Angels’ surprising trade with Rangers

With the Los Angeles Angels trading Logan O’Hoppe and Chase Silseth to the Texas Rangers, it spurred a ton of reactions from the baseball world as the team gets started ahead of Monday’s trade deadline. As people ponder the Angels and executive John Mozeliak’s goals for the trade deadline, this former player had a hard time understanding the deal made.

Speaking on “Foul Territory,” World Series champion (2005) and two-time All-Star catcher A.J. Pierzynski was honest in saying that the trade “doesn’t make sense” for Los Angeles, unless they’re fully cleaning house. He was shocked mostly at the team letting go of the pitcher in Silseth, who has played well with a 2.87 ERA and 48 strikeouts in 39.2 innings.

“I don’t know what this was. This doesn’t make sense from in the division. You want to get rid of O’Hoppe, fine, but the Silseth one, he’s having a pretty good year, he’s young,” Pierzynski said. “So I don’t know, I don’t understand unless John Mozeliak is just saying, ‘Hey, we’re going to get rid of everybody because we have stunk for so long,’ and maybe finally Artie Moreno has allowed it.”

“But I don’t understand it from that side of if you’re going to give away one of your guys that’s been pretty decent for you,” Pierzynski continued. “I mean, the 22 walks you can live with, but I mean, he’s he’s pretty good to give away.”
