The Toronto Blue Jays torched the Chicago White Sox for five runs in the sixth inning Monday night, turning the series opener into another forgettable mess at 35th and Shields. Sean Burke looked sharp early but unraveled by the sixth. The White Sox, fresh off a rare series win in Denver, apparently left any trace of positive momentum back in the Rocky Mountains.
Toronto belted three home runs and made sure the South Siders' return to the South Side came with a dose of reality, and another L.
The White Sox actually scored first! Kyle Teel got plunked by José Berríos in the third inning, and Colson Montgomery drew a two-out walk. Brooks Baldwin followed with a rocket down the first baseline that Vladimir Guerrero Jr. couldn't handle. That play let Teel score and made it 1–0.

But that would be the last bit of fun for a while.
Burke breezed through the first three innings, allowing only two walks. But the wheels started to rattle in the fourth when Guerrero Jr. walked, stole second (no, seriously), and scored on a Bo Bichette's single.
Toronto went back-to-back in the fifth with solo shots from Joey Loperfido and Nathan Lukes. Burke returned for the sixth but didn't record an out. Bichette doubled, Addison Barger blasted a two-run shot, and after a single by Alejandro Kirk, Brandon Eisert came in to mop up.
Spoiler: There was no mopping.
Myles Straw walked. Ernie Clement singled. And then Loperfido knocked in two with another single. Lukes added another run on a sacrifice bunt, blowing the game open at 8–1.
The White Sox did add a couple of window-dressing runs in the bottom half of the seventh. Mike Tauchman singled with two outs to score a pair and make it 8–3. Lenyn Sosa added another RBI single in the eighth.
Final score: 8–4. Final vibe: evaporated.
Luis Robert Jr. is close to a return. Next couple of days, if all goes well

The White Sox will try to avoid a third straight loss Tuesday night when Aaron Civale takes the mound. The Blue Jays counter with Chris Bassitt, who may or may not turn into Nolan Ryan against this lineup.
