Former San Francisco Giants pitcher Tyler Walker’s extended family is missing amid the deadly floods in Texas.
The Walker family confirmed over the weekend that Tyler’s brother, sister-in-law, and 14-year-old son disappeared after Friday’s flash floods in Central Texas. Mark Walker, Sara Walker, and Johnny Walker were staying in Hunt, Texas, while their daughter attended summer camp.
The San Francisco Chronicle reported that their 16-year-old daughter, Emily, is safe.
Tyler Walker declined to comment when the Chronicle reached out. His mother, Kathy, said she’d last heard from Mark last Thursday.
“I’m sick to my stomach,” Kathy Walker said. “It’s a terrible feeling, because you’re helpless here.”
Mark and Tyler’s cousin, Angela, wrote on Friday that they’d given the family’s contact information to the Red Cross.
The Chronicle reported that Tyler and his wife flew to Texas over the weekend to be with Ellie.
“It’s impossibly hard right now,” Kathy Walker said. “It feels like there’s a hole in my stomach. It hurts.”
According to CNN, at least 82 people have died “in connection” with the flash flood as of Monday morning. At least 10 girls and one counselor from Camp Mystic, an all-girls camp located along the Guadalupe River, remain unaccounted for.
Walker went 23-28 with a 4.23 ERA in eight big-league seasons from 2002-10.
