While the 2026 World Baseball Classic is roughly 11 months away, there have already been massive news regarding the tournament.
On Monday, Team USA announced that Aaron Judge would be named their captain. Just one day later, Fernando Tatis Jr. announced that he would be playing for his native Dominican Republic next year.
On Wednesday, Francisco Lindor took to Instagram and announced that he would captain the 2026 Puerto Rico team. In his post, he stated "Honored to be captain of Team Puerto Rico for the 2026 World Baseball Classic Vamos mi borinquén!"
This will be the third time Lindor will participate in the WBC (2017, 2023), and the second time he will be named captain of Puerto Rico (2023). He is hoping to get Puerto Rico their first WBC title; twice the team has made the championship game but has come up short both times..
Lindor was a member of the 2017 team that lost in the championship game to Team USA. He was one of the best players of the entire tournament, winning MVP of Pool D as well as being named to the All-WBC team.

While the favorites for the 2026 tournament are reigning champions Team Japan and Team USA, expect the Puerto Rican team to have some great performances as well.
Lindor should be flanked by fellow countrymen Carlos Correa and Javier Baez; also brothers Edwin and Alexis Diaz should be a great bullpen tandem to shut down games.
