After starting out the 2026 MLB season on fire, the Los Angeles Dodgers have hit a bit of a skid as of late, losing seven of their last 12 games, including two lost series to the San Francisco Giants and now the Miami Marlins, following a 3-2 defeat in a noon game on Wednesday.
While the Dodgers’ pitching has remained as good as ever, allowing six or more runs on just four occasions during the month of April, their bats have gone alarmingly cold for long stretches of time, including multiple occasions during their current home stretch where they left the bases loaded due to poor plate discipline.
Discussing the Dodgers’ skid against the Marlins, Freddie Freeman noted that LA’s pitching has allowed them to remain in games; their bats just need to hold up their end of the bargain.
“I mean, we’ve kind of been going through it, I would say, as a group. Luckily, we have really, really good pitching, and that’s kind of where we’re at right now. I mean, we were good at the beginning of the season offensively, just kind of going through it right now,” Freeman explained.
“And our pitching has been amazing. I don’t want to not give them praise, cuz they’re the reasons why we have a chance to win every single game. But as an offense, the last few games haven’t been where we want it to be. So hopefully with the off, we’ll get back at it from it.”
Despite having one of the most stacked offensive lineups in baseball right now, the Dodgers’ star players haven’t been playing like it, with Dalton Rushing having more home runs than Shohei Ohtani, Teoscar Hernandez, Will Smith, Kyle Tucker, and Freeman on just 49 plate appearances. Even if Dave Roberts has been getting creative in order to find more at-bats for the backup catcher, what the Dodgers really need is for their stars to play like stars and begin hammering home runs consistently.
Freddie Freeman comments on the team's recent offensive struggles, which have let down some starters’ stellar performances.
“We've kinda have been going through it, I would say as a group,” Freeman said. “Luckily, we have really, really good pitching.”@sportingtrib | #Dodgers pic.twitter.com/APT7FZlOFi
