The Los Angeles Angels will have a new centerfielder for Monday's series opener against the New York Yankees.

The Angels signed utility man Chris Taylor to a one-year, $760,000 contract. The Los Angeles Dodgers released Taylor just over a week ago, and now, he will remain in L.A. but in a Halos uniform.

The Dodgers used Taylor sparingly this season as he played in just 28 games. He received 35 plate appearances, going 7-for-35 with 13 strikeouts this season.

Taylor was in the final year of a four-year, $60 million deal and had $16 million guaranteed left on his deal entering the season. Given his new deal with the Angels, it appears both L.A. teams will be paying the utility man this season.

The arrival of Taylor to the Angels clubhouse gives the team an experienced veteran. The utility man is a former All-Star and two-time World Series champion. In 2021, Taylor hit .254 with 20 home runs and 73 runs batted in the year he earned his first and only All-Star selection.

The Angels will hope Taylor can provide those kinds of numbers in their lineup. The utility man opted to part ways with the Dodgers in the hopes of finding more consistent playing time elsewhere.

Taylor started in only six games for the Dodgers this season, so the sample size is not very helpful. However, the Angels evidently believe he can help the team produce at the highest level.
