Giancarlo Stanton receives injury update after trade deadline

It was only a week ago when there was no timetable for Giancarlo Stanton to return from injury. However, the New York Yankees got a glimmer of hope on Wednesday with a critical update, per MLB.com.

“Has been hitting and faced live pitching Aug. 3 from Carlos Rodón, then jogged in the Yankee Stadium outfield,” MLB.com wrote. “Was swinging the bat and made contact. Also faced Clarke Schmidt on Aug. 4.”

He is expected to return in August.

Stanton has been out since April 24 when he was taken out of a game against the Houston Astros. Ultimately, Stanton suffered a right calf strain and has been on the injured list ever since. Additionally, he eventually joined Aaron Judge and Cody Bellinger on the injured list.

All the while, the Yankees are having a considerably good season with a current 64-50 record. They are trailing the Tampa Bay Rays by 3.5 games in the American League East Division. Meanwhile, the Yankees are leading the American League Wild Card standings.

Stanton is batting .256 with 23 hits, 3 home runs, 8 runs scored, and 14 RBIs.

In Stanton’s absence, the Yankees have been deprived of a right-handed power hitter in the middle of the order. As a result, they’ve experienced semblances of offensive inconsistencies. Stanton’s return continued to be delayed during this stretch.

The Yankees are in the midst of a three-game series with the St. Louis Cardinals. So far, they’ve split the first two games, with the third game on Wednesday at Yankee Stadium.

The official return of Stanton is yet to be determined.
