At 22-36, the San Francisco Giants have been in desperate need of a spark under new manager Tony Vitello. When they looked at their Double-A team, the Giants believe they have found their answer.

San Francisco is calling up outfielder Jonah Cox, via Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle. Skipping over Triple-A entirely, Cox was shocked to receive his first major league call up.

“I was definitely surprised,” Cox told the Chronicle. “We had a team meeting, and it was just kind of like talking about like not getting thrown out, like ‘Don’t get on the umpires, try and act like a big leaguer.’ And that then kind of led into saying I was getting called up. Everyone went nuts. I somehow got drenched in water. It was a blast.”

As for what Giants fan can expect from him, Cox kept it blunt.

“I kind of play with my hair on fire,” Cox said.

While seeing the outfielder called straight up from Double-A may be shocking, Cox has been on fire to start his 2026 campaign. Over his first 44 games, the newest Giant hit .400 hit six home runs, 35 RBIs and 27 stolen bases. It was impossible for San Francisco to ignore those numbers.

Making such a large leap to the majors, Cox may suffer some growing pains to start. But if his Double-A blow up is able to translate to MLB action, the Giants will have found a key piece of their future. Once inserted into a game, Cox will have the opportunity to prove he belongs.
