The Los Angeles Angels welcomed the Cleveland Guardians to Anaheim on Friday for the first game of a three-game series. Starting the season 4-2 through, the Angels look determined to bounce back from the franchise record 99 losses they suffered in 2024.

As for the Guardians, they went to the American League Championship Series last season where they lost to the New York Yankees. Led by star third baseman Jose Ramirez, the reigning American League Central champions have high hopes for 2025.

Hitting his second and third home runs of the season on Friday against the Angels, Ramirez continued what has been a strong start to 2025.

Ramirez's second home run of the game not only tied the score at 4-4, but it also made history. The six-time All-Star has now tied franchise legends Jim Thome and Albert Belle atop a historic list (via Sarah Langs of MLB).

"This is Jose Ramirez’s 26th career multi-HR game, tying Albert Belle and Jim Thome for most in Cleveland franchise history," Langs wrote on X.

Ramirez now has 258 career home runs, which ranks second in Cleveland franchise history. The switch-hitting infielder trails only Thome (337) for the all-time lead.

Finishing fifth in American League MVP voting last season, Ramirez turned in another stellar campaign. A five-time Silver Slugger Award winner, Ramirez entered Friday having tallied 51.8 WAR for his career.

Signing a seven-year, $141 million contract in 2022 to remain in Cleveland, Ramirez took a much smaller deal than he could have gotten elsewhere.
