The Cleveland Guardians got some bad news down on the farm on Friday, with Zack Meisel of The Athletic reporting that infield prospect Juan Brito will miss the next 2-3 months because of thumb surgery to repair a sprained ligament.

Brito, 23, is ranked as the No. 10 prospect in the organization by MLB Pipeline. He was originally signed in 2018 by the Colorado Rockies but came to Cleveland in the trade for Nolan Jones. He had been predicted to make his major league debut this season and was seen as a possible replacement for the now-departed Andres G imenez, so we'll see how this injury impacts his timeline.
Playing for Triple-A Columbus this season, he's hitting .291 with a .406 on-base percentage. He has two home runs and four stolen bases.

Yet another switch-hitting Guardians infield prospect, Brito always has made consistent contact and controlled the strike zone from both sides of the plate. He also has displayed the aptitude to launch balls in the air to his pull side, though he produced just 31 homers in his first 296 pro games before bashing a career-best 21 last year. He did a better job of driving the ball as a righty after struggling to do so in 2023.
The Guardians will host the Boston Red Sox on Friday night at Progressive Field. First pitch is set for 7:10 p.m. ET.
Cleveland is 14-10 this season while Boston is 14-13.

Craig Kimbrel lands with World Series contender after latest release
Craig Kimbrel is hoping to make an impact with an MLB team down the stretch, and a World Series contender is giving the former All-Star reliever a shot. Kimbrel agreed to a big-league contract with the Houston Astros on Thursday, according to ESPN's Jeff Passan. Kimbrel began the 2025 season with the Atlanta Braves after signing a minor-league contract with them in March. The right-hander started out with the Double-A Columbus Clingstones and did not give up a hit in three appearances. Kimbrel was then promoted to the Triple-A Gwinnett Stripers, where he went 1-1 with a 2.00 ERA and 23 strikeouts over 18 innings. The Braves added Kimbrel to their active roster on June 6. He pitched a scoreless seventh inning in Atlanta's 5-4 win over the San Francisco Giants that day. Kimbrel allowed a walk and a hit in the inning. The following day, Atlanta made the puzzling decision to designate Kimbrel for assignment. Kimbrel opted for free agency rather than accepting his minor league assignment. He then signed a minor league contract with the Texas Rangers but never made it to their MLB roster. Kimbrel was granted his release on Thursday and signed with Houston. Kimbrel, 37, is a nine-time All-Star who has pitched for eight different teams during his MLB career. He led the National League in saves four times and was one of the best relief pitchers in the league during his prime. Kimbrel also helped the Boston Red Sox win a World Series in 2018. The Astros were 69-58 entering Thursday and had a 1.5-game lead over the Seattle Mariners in the AL West. If Kimbrel is healthy, he could provide Houston with some valuable bullpen depth over the final stretch of the season.

Bengals have major PR blunder over invite to former player for Ring of Honor ceremony
The Cincinnati Bengals do not have the best reputation when it comes to their willingness to spend money. They have been regarded as one of the cheapest teams in the league over how much they are willing to pay players, over their front office, coaching, scouting staff and for pretty much anything else that comes with running a professional sports franchise. Now, one of their all-time greatest players is putting them on blast for the way they invited him to the team's Ring of Honor ceremony in October. Former quarterback Boomer Esiason revealed on his radio show on Friday that his invite to the Oct. 26 ceremony wasn't exactly one that made him willing to jump up and rush back to Cincinnati. Instead of a personal invite, Esiason revealed that he received a form-letter email that he had to RSVP with for the ceremony, two tickets to the game with the opportunity to purchase more on his own and a group rate for a hotel that he would have to book himself, while also providing his own transportation. Here is the entire story from Esiason. On one hand, the common fan is not really going to understand his gripe here, and he might even come off as a little entitled. Maybe spoiled. Maybe even something of a jerk. But, is he wrong when you consider the context? The context being, he is a former professional athlete who is already in the Bengals' ring of honor and a player who made significant contributions to the franchise. He is one of the top quarterbacks -- and players -- to ever suit up for the team. Usually, teams go out of their way to roll out the red carpet for those players and bring them back for events like this. At least, that is probably the type of treatment players are accustomed to from multi-billion-dollar professional sports teams. Could Esiason afford his own plane ticket and hotel room? Could he buy his own tickets to the game? Absolutely. He was a starting quarterback in the NFL for over a decade and is one of the highest-profile radio hosts on the top sports talk channel in the country. He's probably doing fine financially. A trip to Cincinnati probably is not out of his budget. Still, it's the lack of effort from the Bengals that really stands out here, and it's not a great look for a franchise that doesn't have the best reputation when it comes to spending money. Yeah, Esiason can afford it. But so can the Bengals. And if they wanted him — and any other player — to show up, they could at least make it worth their while and a little easier for them. This story also caught the attention of former Bengals running back Corey Dillon, who delivered his own shot at the team on social media. Tough look all around for the Bengals to have former players — all-time great players for the franchise — calling them out.
Three NFL teams 'on the radar' for Micah Parsons trade
The Dallas Cowboys have not gotten to the point where they have entertained potential trades for Micah Parsons, but there are several contenders that are likely monitoring the situation. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler spoke about the Parsons situation during Friday’s edition of “SportsCenter.” The reporter said that multiple teams have reached out to the Cowboys to inquire about trading for Parsons. At this point, Dallas has not entertained the talks. Fowler added that it would take “some sort of Herculean offer” for the Cowboys to even consider dealing Parsons. He then listed three teams that might have interest — the Green Bay Packers, Baltimore Ravens and Arizona Cardinals. “People I’ve spoken to in Dallas remain optimistic that (a deal can be reached). I would say on the player’s side, not so much optimism,” Fowler said. “If they were to entertain a trade, there would be interest. Teams that make sense to me, at least, on the radar would be the Green Bay Packers, Arizona Cardinals, Baltimore Ravens are a player away, even some teams in Dallas’ own division. But it looks like Dallas doesn’t want to go that route.” Parsons had already been linked to one of the aforementioned teams by another prominent NFL reporter. A trade seems unlikely even if the Cowboys are unable to come to an agreement with Parsons on a new contract before Week 1. Parsons, who is set to earn roughly $24 million in the final year of his rookie deal this season, has very little leverage. He would forfeit game checks if he were to sit out regular-season games, and his contract would eventually toll. Dallas also has the ability to use the franchise tag on Parsons in 2026 and 2027. One thing is for certain: the public sparring match between the Cowboys and Parsons remains ongoing. Jerry Jones made some new comments on Thursday criticizing Parsons’ agent David Mulugheta for blowing a verbal agreement between the two sides. Mulugheta responded by calling the claim ridiculous. A phone call could change everything, but both the Cowboys and Parsons seem as dug in as possible.
