If the Philadelphia Phillies want to make a massive upgrade at the deadline, which seems like something they need to do given how the team has played throughout the early part of the season, it could require them moving on from some of their top prospects. Whether that be Andrew Painter or Aidan Miller remains to be seen, but the Phillies would have to be smart in any move that involves them.
And according to a recent report from Bob Nightengale of USA Today, the Phillies don't have any plans on moving either of them, giving a good indication that, unless something changes over the next few months, the team will likely have both of their prospects in the farm system moving forward.
“Yet, the Phillies are adamant they will not include top prospects Andrew Painter or Aidan Miller in any trade,” he wrote.
Now, never say never. If the Phillies get an offer for a superstar-level player with multiple years of control, there could be a scenario where trading one or both of them makes sense.
While Miller is an elite infielder and has proven throughout his young career at the professional ranks that he's very good, he's struggled a bit at the Double-A level, currently hitting .206 with just two home runs in 68 at-bats.
For a painter, the expectation is that he’ll make his debut sometime during the 2025 campaign. Barring anything drastic happening, the right-hander, who throws 100-plus miles per hour, should be in a Phillies Jersey by July, giving the team a much-needed addition in the middle of the rotation or bullpen.
