Insider reveals Red Sox’s dream MLB trade deadline targets

After their sudden surge up the standings, the Boston Red Sox are now in a position to enter the MLB trade deadline as buyers. There are a number of players that sit atop Boston’s wish list.

With plenty of pitching depth, the Red Sox will be looking to further bolster their offense. Adding a player like CJ Abrams of the Washington Nationals, Zach Neto of the Los Angeles Angels or Shea Langeliers of the Athletics would prove Boston plans to seriously compete in 2026, via Bob Nightengale of USA Today.

“They’ve got plenty of money in the coffers after unloading Rafael Devers last summer, and have no hesitancy acquiring big stars,” Nightengale wrote. “They made attempts to acquire Angels center fielder Mike Trout in the past, and this time have their eyes on Angels shortstop Zach Neto or shortstop C.J. Abrams from the Washington Nationals. They also salivate over the idea of having Shea Langeliers behind the plate.”

Whether or not the team is still trying to acquire Mike Trout is unclear. For as bad as the Los Angeles Angels have struggled, they’ve been reluctant to trade away their superstar. As for the other three names, the trio have been consistently in trade rumors leading up to the deadline.

Neto or Abrams would give the Red Sox a clear upgrade at shortstop and a powerful bat in the lineup. Boston has been chasing an upgrade behind the plate as well, and Langeliers may be the biggest name available at the position. All three would immediately make the Red Sox much scarier when they’re at the dish.

If the franchise will be able to pull off any big-name deals is yet to be seen. But the Red Sox are at least trying to make a splash.
