The Braves made a number of promotions yesterday. Among them, David McCabe is one of the most intriguing names, who is headed to AAA Gwinnett.

David McCabe is a prospect I feel in love with early on, but Tommy John surgery really threw a wrench into his development. It limited him to just 35 games last season, in which he hit a measly .137 with a .497 OPS.
McCabe didn’t exactly get off to a red-hot start to 2025 either. He was hitting just .236 with a .709 OPS through the first 60 games, but a two-hit showing on June 22nd seemed to get the ball rolling, and he hasn’t stopped raking ever since.
Over his last 45 games, McCabe is hitting a remarkable .350, getting on base at a .420 clip, and slugging well over .500. That’s what led to this promotion, and at 25-years-old, he could receive some consideration for the major-league roster in the near future if his success continues in Gwinnett.
The real question is where McCabe fits in Atlanta. He’s a corner infielder, and both of those positions are currently blocked for a long time. He could potentially be viewed as a DH option, but he hasn’t really flashed the kind of power necessary for that role. Regardless, he’s one of the better bats in the system and looks to have fully recovered from the injury that plagued his 2024 campaign. McCabe will be a prospect to watch heading into 2026.
