Houston Astros manager Joe Espada has provided an update on LaMonte Wade Jr. after the first baseman left Monday’s game against the Los Angeles Angels with right hamstring soreness.
Wade picked up the injury in the sixth inning as he stretched for a double and pushed hard out of the batter’s box. He felt discomfort in his right hamstring as he reached second base. He left the game immediately after the play with a trainer, and Brice Matthews replaced him in the game.
The Astros called the issue right hamstring soreness. Wade now sits in day-to-day status while the team waits for full medical tests to decide if he needs a stint on the injured list.
Matt Kawahara said on X that manager Joe Espada described Wade’s hamstring as “pretty sore” and said the team will evaluate him further on Tuesday morning before making a final decision.

Wade entered Monday’s game with steady season numbers. He hit .248 with a .344 on-base percentage, four home runs, 24 RBIs, and a .708 OPS. He also collected 58 hits, 13 doubles, and 27 walks in 74 games. He has played a key role as a left-handed bat and depth option across multiple spots in the lineup.
Before leaving the game, Wade went 1-for-3 with a double. The hit came in the sixth inning, but the effort on the bases led to the injury that forced him out. Wade has served as a depth option for the Astros this season. He has played across multiple roles and provided left-handed hitting support in the lineup.
Wade’s versatility has helped Houston manage injuries and roster changes throughout the year. The team will now wait for imaging and medical results before setting a timeline for his return. They will also consider whether a roster move is necessary depending on the outcome of Tuesday’s evaluation.
Houston continues its series against the Angels while managing injuries across the roster. The team has dealt with multiple short-term setbacks this season, and Wade’s status adds another question to their lineup plans.
Espada did not confirm a timeline for Wade’s return but said the team will wait for further medical evaluation before deciding the next step. The 32-year-old joined the Astros on June 6, 2026, after opting out of his deal with Triple-A Charlotte. He was in the lineup for Thursday’s 5-1 loss to the Pirates at Daikin Park, hitting fifth and playing left field, and went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts.
Wade played college baseball for the Maryland Terrapins before the Twins selected him in the ninth round of the 2015 MLB Draft. He worked his way through the minor leagues before reaching the majors in 2019 and has since carved out a role as a versatile first baseman and corner outfielder.
