Joe Girardi reveals biggest regret of Phillies tenure

Girardi was the manager of the Phillies from 2020 to 2022. He finished with an overall record of 137-131. Philadelphia missed the playoffs each year during his tenure. After Girardi’s firing, Philadelphia brought on Rob Thomson as the manager. Eventually, they won the National League Wild Card and made an improbable run to the World Series. The Phillies eventually lost to the Houston Astros in six games.

Girardi played from 1989 to 2003. He had played for the Chicago Cubs, Colorado Rockies, New York Yankees, and St. Louis Cardinals. From 1996 to 1999, he won three championships with the Yankees as their starting catcher. Girardi began his managerial career in 2006 with the then-Florida Marlins. He returned to the Yankees in 2008 as manager. In 2009, he helped lead them to the World Series in a six-game victory over the Phillies.

Girardi went on to manage the Yankees until 2017. Currently, Girardi is an analyst for the YES Network calling games for the Yankees. He was previously an analyst for Fox Sports, MLB Network, and the Marquee Sports Network for the Cubs.
