Justin Verlander news included in latest Tigers injury updates

With the Detroit Tigers dealing with injuries currently, the one piece that fans are waiting for updates on is veteran starting pitcher Justin Verlander. As Verlander continues his injury recovery with the Tigers, manager A.J. Hinch provides a key update that shows where he is in his process.

According to Cody Stavenhagen, he would list some injury news for Detroit, like with Zach McKinstry and Troy Melton, but when it comes to Verlander, he is “scheduled to throw another bullpen this weekend.”

“A few Tigers injury updates: Zach McKinstry is about to start a rehab assignment with Triple-A Toledo, Troy Melton will start a rehab assignment with Class A Lakeland on Sunday, Justin Verlander is scheduled to throw another bullpen this weekend,” Stavenhagen wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

Tigers’ A.J. Hinch on the point of Justin Verlander’s bullpen sessions

A fan hearing that Verlander is going through another bullpen session could wonder if that’s truly progress or not, as a clear sign would usually be a rehab start in the minor leagues or other methods, but the plan has a clear intent. As said by Hinch, the goal of the bullpen sessions is for Verlander to get through them “without symptoms.”

“We’re really just trying to get through bullpens without symptoms,” Hinch said, according to MLive.com. “That’s why we’re taking it one step at a time. The hope is he can add more and more each session, and he’s been able to do that slowly. But I don’t know until we get him past this hump of the bullpens.

“He’s still fighting through it, which doesn’t mean he should be shut down or that anything needs to change — it just means it’s slow,” Hinch continued. “If people are wondering, he’s pretty frustrated that it’s not going faster. He’s doing his best. We just have to pay attention to the symptoms.”

Verlander looks to get back and improve after currently recording one start with Detroit on March 30 against the Arizona Diamondbacks, where he gave up five earned runs to go along with allowing six hits, two walks, while striking out one.
