Ketel Marte is becoming a mainstay for the Arizona Diamondbacks. He’s considered a leader within the organization—and his influence extends beyond his on-field performances. Marte is one of a core of players signed to long-term deals to build around the team’s future.
Marte has mentioned that he wanted to be a Diamondback for the rest of his career. The front office shared the same sentiment, and in April, they agreed to a six-year, $116 million contract extension. This contract keeps him in Arizona through 2031.
Marte is a proven hitter with first-rate power and on-base skills. He is known for his offensive ability to hit for average, to find a way to get on base, to drive in runs, and to get that clutch hit when needed. He has worked on his hand-eye coordination at the plate and has become a much better situational hitter. The enhanced aptitude he has shown in drawing walks has demonstrated a stable and well-rounded approach to his hitting. Over the last 30 days, Marte ranks second in OPS (1.183) and runs (23), third in home runs (11), and sixth in OBP (.442). On top of that, he holds a .317 batting average.

Marte continues to build on the success he has had in the past. His notable 2024 showing included a career-high in home runs with 36 and RBI with 95. That, along with his OPS of .932, earned him admiration and respect around MLB. He also became an All-Star for the second time in his career, something he’s looking forward to achieving again this season. He earned his first Silver Slugger award and was named to the All-MLB team. A third-place finish in the NL MVP race capped his season.
After playing both second base and center field in the past, Marte has settled in well at second base on a full-time basis. His defensive contributions are often overlooked. However, he has shown significant defensive improvement over the past few seasons, particularly in his ability to turn double plays.

Ketel Marte is a D-Backs mainstay, and his ability to mentor younger players shows his leadership. Always known for his confident and optimistic presence, he boosts and energizes his teammates. Even Manager Torey Lovullo has commented that Marte will likely be the best player he has ever managed.
Marte’s future is bright, especially with his new deal. The Diamondbacks wanted to build around their core group, and keeping him was key. With his ninth season in the desert, he is now the longest-tenured player in franchise history. In addition, Marte is now one of four Diamondbacks players to reach 150 career home runs. He is a great player and teammate. He’s also a fan favorite. As he continues to flourish, he will become one of the greatest players in Arizona Diamondbacks history.
