As it has been a brutal start for the Philadelphia Phillies, the team continues its struggles after a 4-2 loss to the Atlanta Braves, which marked the ball club’s fifth straight loss and their 10th in the last 13 games. While some in the baseball world aren’t worried about the Phillies’ slow start, star Kyle Schwarber would give insight into his feelings on the way the team is playing.
The last nine games have come at home for Philadelphia, but even still, Sunday’s loss would give the team a 2-7 record in the homestand, a mark that is no doubt concerning for the team. Especially for Schwarber, who showed his signs of frustration in the loss to Atlanta, as he slammed his helmet down on the final out of the game, though he feels it’s “inevitable” that good fortunes are coming their way.
“Everyone in the dugout, everyone in the locker room, we’re all putting in the work. We’re all doing what we need to do. We all want to keep getting better. Results, chasing results, chasing hits, chasing all that, that’s not the way to go about it. I feel like on a daily basis, seeing the guys in here and the way that they’re working, it’s inevitable. It’s inevitable. At some point, it’s going to change,” Schwarber said, according to Todd Zolecki.
Phillies manager Rob Thomson would keep it real after the game, saying that the team is filled with a “lot of frustration,” though he also mentioned how it will get better. Schwarber would even say how the team has “been in these spots before.”
“No one wants to be in this position to start the year off. But this team knows how to find its way out of holes and keep battling, and keep finding a way to put ourselves in position to win games,” Schwarber said, via Zolecki.
Philadelphia has a chance to recapture its winning ways, though the next seven games come on the road, starting with a four-game series against the Chicago Cubs, starting Monday night.
